Practice Act Modernization Update Discussion Draft Regulations Now Available!
The Kentucky Board of Veterinary Examines (KBVE), in response to requests for more information related to the Kentucky Veterinary Medicine Practice Act Modernization initiative, has developed discussion draft regulations for your review. These drafts relate to the proposed regulation of Veterinary Facilities and Allied Professionals. To be clear, these are draft documents only, and released solely for early discussion and feedback. The board has no intention of filing these drafts today.
First, the Practice Act Modernization bill must pass. Even then, the board intends to seek stakeholder input through working groups, and will further refine the drafts before anything is filed. Additionally, if these regulations are filed, they will undergo a public comment period and review by the General Assembly prior to becoming law, which can take at least 6-months from the date of filing.
The drafts may be accessed online from the same webpage as the Practice Act Modernization proposal documents. To access the discussion drafts, please visit www.kybve.com/practice-act.html and open the drop-down heading “Regulations – DISCUSSION DRAFTS (no final not filed with LRC)”.
KBVE welcomes all comments. Written comments are preferred to Vet@ky.gov or mailed to KBVE, 107 Corporate Drive, Second Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601. You may also call 502-782-0273 or 502-782-0269 and relay your comments verbally.
For those who have already signed up, or those wishing to join a stakeholder working group, meetings will be scheduled in February – May to dive into these regulations together for feedback, improvement, and filling in the unknowns. Please email Vet@ky.gov if you are interested in joining one of the working groups. Please let me know if you have any questions.
